Department of PG Studies and Research in Wildlife and Management
The Department of Studies in Wildlife and Management was started during the year 2003. The Department offers M.Sc., and Ph.D courses in Wildlife and Management. The course content is designed to cover all aspects of Wildlife and management and practical orientation for wildlife conservation methods. The M.Sc.,and Ph.D programme in Wildlife and Management aims to produce well-trained biologists and conservation practitioners who will retain their passion for wild places and a sense of purpose to conserve them. We provide our students a strong foundation of science that will help them design, implement and monitor a range of ecological studies and conservation projects. To develop these capabilities, our students learn about wildlife science and conservation through a multi-disciplinary process. They are trained in fundamental ecology, project design skills and technical tools required to carry out scientific studies. As future conservationists they need to expose to the historical, social, economic, legal and political contexts that underlie the conservation process. In addition, we also teach effective communication using a variety of media, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills, to deal with real life conservation issues. The department also inviting accomplished scientists regularly from various prestigious Government and private institutions to deliver special lectures in order to encourage and motivate the students to take up research programmes. The students who have successfully completed the course have been working in various capacities in Karnataka State Forest Department, Research institutions, NGO's and Universities. During the past 14 years of existence, the Department has successfully completed one major and one minor research projects funded by UGC, New Delhi. Department produced 09 Ph.Ds, 01 M.Phil and published more than 70 research papers in various refereed/peer reviewed journals. Presently 07 students are pursuing Ph.D.
